Tour de States - a cross-country bike trip benefitting the American Cancer Society

“I want to ride a bike across the country.”

When Skyler Kern told his friends about his goal, they laughed in his face. He couldn’t help but laugh a little himself. After all, it was a hurdle that couldn’t be cleared without a great deal of physical, emotional, and psychological strain. His optimism was met with replies of “You’re kidding, right?” and “You’re going to die.” But for Skyler, their skepticism only warmed the bike seat.

The Journey's End

3 bikers, 3 bikes, and 3 crew college kids diving into the Pacific Ocean, fully clothed and going nuts.

That’s the scene that the beach goers of Huntington Beach, California are about to witness in two days, one couch surfer, and 150 miles from now.

That’s right folks, we’ve hiked through the New Mexico Mountains, trudged through the Arizona desert, and crossed our last state line, finding ourselves ahead of schedule, surrounded by the Golden State, one day's ride from the glorious Pacific Ocean.

Towering over my parents, I am the tallest person in my family. I am 5'5.

What do you expect the greatest challenge to be?
I hear I may be destroyed by an 18-wheeler while riding through Texas.

Who is a personal hero of yours?
My grandfather. He took nothing and made it into something. The world claims that's not possible.

What is your biggest fear?
Taking advantage of what I've been given.
